World temperatures are increasing day by day. The rise of the average temperature of the earth’s surface is known as Global warming. In recent years, the world’s climate is undergoing a significant change. Global warming is a big aspect of climate change. Global warming is caused by the increased amount of carbon dioxide around the earth. Most of the climatologists believe that the greenhouse effect is the most likely cause of this global warming. The greenhouse effect is caused by gases in the air that traps heat energy from the Sun. The gases that cause heat-trapping in the earth’s surface are called greenhouse gasses. Greenhouse gases such as, carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide absorb and emits heat energy. Carbon dioxide is the main culprit of global warming. It is generally produced by the burning of fossil fuels and forests It is predicted that by the next century temperatures of the earth-surface may have risen by as much as 40 C. This could terribly reduce mankind’s capacity to grow food, damage wildlife, and wilderness, raise sea levels and thereby flood coastal areas and farmland. The polar ice caps have started to melt. It is also predicted that as a result of the rise of the sea level the lower part of many countries may one day go underwater. Global warming can be mitigated through the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. We need to encourage low-carbon energy technologies. Also, we can prevent global warming by being careful and raising public awareness.
