Pahela Baishakh is one of the festival days to Bangladeshi people. It is the first day of the Bengali year. People celebrate Pahela Baishakh with great pleasures. On this day different classes of people come out to greet others. Traders and shopkeepers open halkhata. They offer sweets to their customers and open new invoices. Children, young, adults, aged almost the people of all ages both male and female look forward to celebrating this day with great hope and aspiration. At the very dawn, they go outside to celebrate Pahela Baishakh eating pantavath. Many socio-cultural organizations draw up extended programmes to celebrate Pahela Baishakh. Bangla Academy, Shilpakala Academy, Bulbul Lalita kala Academy, Jatiya Press Club, Liberation War Museum, Bangladesh National Museum, Institute of Fine Arts of Dhaka University and many other organisations bring out colourful processions with festoons, placards, posters, banners, masks etc. Bangladesh Betar, BTV and other television channel telecast different lively programmes describing and showing the festival activities of Pahela Baishakh. We can’t but memories this day with great pleasure every year.
