An earthquake is a natural calamity. It is the result of sudden release of energy that creates seismic waves. Earthquake occurs frequently due to the movement of the tectonic plates of the earth. It may also be occurred by other events such as volcanic activity, landslides, mine blasts, and nuclear tests. It causes much havoc to our life and wealth. Earthquake is measured with a seismometer. In an earthquake, the quake of the surface area occurs serious changes. The buildings are collapsed and crumbled within a few seconds for the violent shaking of the earth’s surface. It also may cause injury and loss of life, general property damage, road and bridge damage and so on. One of the most devastating earthquakes is recorded in history was the 1556 Shaanxi earthquake in China that caused the death of more than 830,000 people. The aftermath of the earthquake brings miseries to the survivors. The outbreak of disease, lack of basic necessities, mental consequences like depression to survivors, etc. are common scenarios after the earthquake. People undergo traumas throughout the rest of their lives. It endangers the existence of life to survive on earth. We cannot prevent the earthquake since it is a natural catastrophe. Predictions of earthquake cannot yet be made scientifically still now. We can only minimize the damages of the earthquake by taking measures. We should follow the earthquake resistance building code as compulsory.
