It happens due to various reasons. The reasons are heavy rainfall, rapid snowmelt; overflowing of rivers, breaking dams, etc. Hurricanes and cyclones are also responsible for causing floods in coastal areas. Bangladesh is highly prone to floods. In this country, few regions face this natural disaster dangerously in the rainy season. The northeastern area of Bangladesh like Sylhet, Sunamganj, Moulvibazar, Habiganj, and Netrakona Districts, and northern districts like Lalmonirhat, Kurigram, Nilphamari, and Rangpur are mostly affected by flooding.  Heavy monsoon rains and overflow of river water are the chief reason for floods in these regions. Different regions of the world are flooded at different times due to different reasons. Flood causes the loss of human life, damage to property, destroy crops, the loss of livestock, and deterioration of health due to waterborne diseases. Flood risk can never be removed in some areas.  But, it can be controlled by creating physical barriers like levees, dams, seawalls, and tide gates. By taking these solutions the risk of flood can be reduced to some extent.
