The person who works in agriculture is known as a farmer. He is a familiar figure in our country. He does the work of farming in his little land. There are some landless farmers who work in the land of others. He is illiterate. He does not know how to plough his land scientifically. He can not apply the scientific methods in his cultivation. He cultivates his land with a pair of bullocks and some handmade tools. He always suffers for want of money to buy seeds, fertilizer, or pesticides. Consequently, he cannot produce more food for his family. Sometimes he takes the risk of getting a loan from the money lenders. When he cannot repay the loan, he has to sell his only piece of land. The farmers remain always busy, working hard for their crops, during day and night. In general, a farmer gets up early in the morning. He goes to his land and ploughs it well. He sows the seeds and weeds out. He comes home at noon to eats his meal. He takes rest and again goes to his land for cultivation. A farmer is dependent on the mercy of nature. He has also joys and sorrows in life. On the period of harvesting, when he gets good crops, his face beams with joy. On the other hand, his sorrows know no bounds if the crops are not good. In the low economic country, the farmers lead a very poor life. Even though they work hard, their labour cannot provide them a decent life. Overall, the life of a farmer is no more than a struggle for existence.

The term ‘farmer’ refers to a person who works for raising crops and vegetables in the fields or also works for raising animals such as poultry or livestock or fishes. So there are different kinds of farmers. Some of the farmers grow crops and some engage in fish farming or poultry farming. In advanced economies, a farmer usually is the owner of a farm. He employs workers to cultivate his farmland.  In lower economies, a farmer owns a piece of land for farming and mostly works in the land of others. A farmer prepares land for farming, sows the seeds, waters the plants, weeds out grasses and does harvesting.  A dairy farmer raises cows for the production of milk and a poultry farmer raises domesticated birds. It is difficult to calculate the income of a farmer. Their income varies depending on the economical condition of the countries or states. The importance of farmers in a country is immeasurable. They work for raising the agricultural production of a country that ensures the food and nutrition of the people. If the farmers stop working the world will die in hunger. So, the government of a country should support the farmer well to grow more food.
