Narration change exclamatory sentence
An exclamatory sentence is a sentence that expresses a sudden emotion or strong feeling of human mind.
Usually, such sentences are formed as follows:
Structure 1: How + Adjective + Noun/Pronoun + Be verb+…
Example: How interesting the scenery is!
Structure 2: What +a/an + Noun/Pronoun + Noun/ Pronoun + Be verb +….
Example: What an interesting scenery it is!
Now, if the reported speech of a direct speech is in an exclamatory sentence, then let us see how to change it to an indirect speech.
Rule 1:
Exclaim/exclaim with joy is used in place of reporting verb to mean delight and exclaim/exclaim with sorrow or grief etc. is used in place of reporting verb to mean sorrow in Direct speech.
Instead of reporting verb “said‘ in Direct speech, the following words will be used in Indirect speech according to the meaning of reported speech sentences.

Rule 2 :
Inverted comma disappears and ‘that’ sits before the reported speech.
Rule -3:
The verb of reported speech is used according to the reporting verb.
When the reported speech sentence starts with What / How the adjective is preceded by very and the noun is preceded by great.
Rule 4:
Tense and Person are changed according to the previous rule.
Example:
Direct: Della said, “Alas! I am undone.”
Indirect: Della exclaimed with grief that he was undone.
Direct: The players said, “Hurrah! We have won the game.”
Indirect: The players exclaimed with joy that they had won the game.
Direct: The old man said, ” Wire I a President.”
Indirect: The old man strongly wished that he were a king.
Direct: He said, ” How fine the book is!”
Indirect: He exclaimed with surprise that the book was very fine.
Direct: He said, ” What a fool I am!”
Indirect: He exclaimed with sorrow that he was a great fool.
Rules for making an indirect speech from Direct Speech with Good-bye:
Structure : Speaker +bid/bade +object + good-bye.
Direct: He said to me, “ Good bye”
Indirect: He bade me good bye.
Direct: He said “Good-bye my friends “
Indirect: He bade his friends good-bye.
Rules for making an indirect speech from Direct Speech with Good morning/ good evening/ good night:
Structure : Speaker +wish/wished + object + Good morning/ good evening/ good night
Direct: I said to him, “Good morning”
Indirect: I wished him good morning.
