Introduction: Games have a positive impact on our life. In the world, there are a number of games. Some games are indoor, some are outdoor. Indoor games are played inside the house. They are carom, chess, etc. On the other hand, outdoor games are football, cricket, hockey etc. These games are played in open ground. They require a lot of physical activities to play. Of all the games, cricket is my favourite. It is an international game. All classes’ people of the world find it interesting. Even in remote villages, the children are seen to play cricket.
Why it is my favourite: For many reasons, cricket is favourite to me. I watch cricket tournament on TV. I think cricket is not a physical game like football. It is a game of courage, merit, and skill. I find interest to see the bat-ball fighting in the field. I don’t miss the international tournament like World Cup Cricket, ICC Intercontinental Cup etc. It is not less enjoyable to me than any other program like singing, drama etc. I always support Bangladesh national cricket team. I become excited when I saw them against other country in the field.
History: Historically, cricket’s origins are in south-east England in the 16th century. Gradually it spread globally. Cricket had become well established in Australia, the Caribbean, India, New Zealand, North America and South Africa by the middle of the 19th century. International Cricket Council (ICC) is the governing body of this game. It has 100 members. The ICC organizes and governs almost all the cricket’s major international tournaments.
System and rules: The Laws of Cricket is a code that specifies the rules of cricket in the worldwide. A rectangular pitch is the approximate center of the field. A wooden target called a wicket which is sited at each end of the pitch. The wickets are placed 20 meter apart. Wide of the pitch is 3 meters with a flat surface. Each wicket is made of three wooden stumps topped by two bails. Before a match begins, the team captains toss a coin to decide which team will bat first. The main theme is that a bowler delivers the ball from his end of the pitch towards the batsman. The batman armed with a bat is “on strike” at the other end. Thirteen players and two umpires stay on the field during normal play.
Popularity: Cricket has had a broad impact on culture. It can create a sense of international brotherhood. It is also the subject of works by noted English poets. Nowadays, cricket is the most popular sport in Bangladesh. It has already taken the place of football. Bangladesh cricket team participated as one of the most experienced teams in the World Cup 2019 with a high expectation.
Conclusion: Today, cricket is more than a game; it’s our national spirit, our symbol. I believe one day we will be the world’s best, only in cricket. I also think that cricket would be the future of Bangladesh.
